Limited Mobility Solutions - Voice Solutions for Limited Mobility

For many of us, using voice commands to turn on lights or change channels on our TV is a luxury, but for those with limited mobility, voice activated solutions such as these can be life changing, both for the individual as well as their caregivers. Bill and Deb Weis had the pleasure of meeting and working with Carrie and Robbie Ivey in the summer of 2017, and the need for this website was inspired from the work they did with them. Soon after the Ivey project, they were joined by an old Digital and Microsoft colleague (John Hollcraft) whose talents helped our company mature and achieve 501(c)(3) status.

At Limited Mobility Solutions, our goal is to leverage existing home automation devices that are compatible with Google and Amazon smart speakers to help people who have lost their independence due to debilitating disease or injury so they can regain some of that independence.

Since 2017, we have processed close to 2 million voice commands. Most of these commands have been for bed controllers and lift chairs. We have learned a lot during this time and have shared a lot with the bed and recliner industry. There has been great progress in the home furnishings style beds with respect to available voice Controllers from the manufacturers. The long-term beds and hospital beds are still lagging behind, however we recently learned of a for-profit company that sells voice activated bed controllers for this space. For our existing customers we have begun to migrate them to the Oratell solution, and for new requests we are simply referring them to sales@oratell.com if a manufacturer voice solution is not already available. When we began this volunteer work many years ago, we had two goals, to help as many as we could, learn as much as possible about the needs and benefits of our solutions, and share those learnings with the respective industries, and secondly, we wanted to fill an unmet need and not compete with for-profit companies when they emerged. We will continue to provide voice activated controllers for specific lift chairs as well as other solutions like call attendant devices that allow someone to contact their caregiver through voice or eye gaze devices.
